Key facts

  • The biggest employers of internationally trained nurses are hospital groups: Helios, Rhön, Charité, Fresenius, and the church-run networks Diakonie, Malteser and Agaplesion.
  • A standard 2026 offer includes: employer-funded recognition, paid German training (B1 to B2), a relocation package and sometimes housing help.
  • Contracts run 38.5 hours per week under the TVöD-P pay scale; starting nurse salary with shift bonuses is roughly 2,900-3,400 euros gross.
  • Recruiting happens through direct employer programs, NGO-sponsored programs (e.g. Malteser) or licensed agencies — verify every agency's license before paying anything.
  • Total timeline from your first application to the first working day: 9 to 15 months including German B2.

01Who actually hires nurses from Pakistan

The market is dominated by hospital groups that run structured international programs: Helios (Europe's largest private group), Rhön, the Charité network in Berlin, Fresenius, and the church-run giants Diakonie, Malteser and Agaplesion with hundreds of care homes.

Each employer follows the same logic: they pay recruitment costs, fund recognition and language training, and sign multi-year commitments in exchange for a reliable, legally working nurse. That is the whole business model of the German nursing gap.

02What a real offer contains

A legitimate 2026 offer includes: employer-funded Anerkennung, a paid German course from B1 towards B2 with living allowance, a relocation package for flight and first months, and assistance with accommodation and the visa appointment.

Your contract also spells out the obligation side: usually a fixed commitment of 12-24 months and reimbursement clauses if you leave early. Read these with a counsellor before signing — they are standard but must be fair.

03Recognising the employer landscape

Beyond the big groups, municipal hospitals and regional care associations run smaller programs with gentle onboarding. They pay slightly less but often offer closer support and cheaper living regions.

Independent of size, verify three things: the employer is registered as a Pflegeeinrichtung or Krankenhaus, the program funds recognition (not selling you documents), and recruitment is via a licensed agency with no upfront fee from you.

04Recognition and language — the employer's checklist

Your nursing diploma and transcripts are sent to the state recognition office; equivalence gaps are closed with employer-funded adaptation courses. The language target is B2 before full responsibility — many employers arrange telc Medizin preparation in Germany.

Your part of the deal: a valid passport, clearly documented clinical experience, and motivation that survives the 9-15 month runway. Nurses who succeed treat the German phase as part of the job, not a waiting period.

05How applications actually get placed

Employers screen international candidates through their own programs or licensed agencies with quotas per hospital. Your CV, diploma and B1/B2 certificate enter a structured pipeline: matching, then an online interview (often with a German nursing supervisor asking technical questions in simple German), then the contract.

Agency quality varies enormously. The safe route is employer-direct programs or agencies that invoice the employer, never the applicant. If a facilitator asks you to pay before an employer contract exists, walk away.

06Success stories follow the same pattern

Every successful placement we have handled shares the same shape: candidate reaches B2 with a reliable trainer, documents are pre-checked, the employer's recognition timeline is mapped before the visa appointment, and the contract is signed before travel.

That is also exactly what our nursing portal workflows are built around: document readiness, language runway and employer matching — with the outcome published in our success stories.
